Master Auto Repair and Tire’s Guide for Shopping for Tires

April 20th, 2015

Tires in St. Louis, MOAt Master Auto Repair in St. Louis, MO, we know that new tires aren’t usually on anyone’s list of favorite things to spend money on. We also know that you’ve got a lot of options to choose from when it comes to buying tires in St. Louis, MO.  However, it’s something you can’t put off, for the sake of your own safety as anyone who’s driven on wet pavement with worn tires can tell you.

If you were happy with your last set of tires, it’s easy enough to just get another set of the same brand and model, but it’s not always quite that simple. Many tire buyers soon discover that when they start looking into makes, models and features, it can soon become a confusing, daunting task. So let’s break it down a little:

  • All-Season Tires -- as the name suggests, all-season tires are a great choice for most drivers. They offer low noise, a forgiving ride, great traction in rain and light wintry conditions, and good handling and responsiveness for most sedans, minivans, SUVs and crossovers.

  • Winter Tires -- specially designed for snow and slush, winter tires are advisable for areas that have harsh winters. They perform markedly better than other tires in winter conditions, with better control and traction. Remember though, the rubber formulation for winter tires is intended for temperatures below 40 degrees -- they will need to be changed again in spring.

  • Touring Tires -- ideal for sedans and minivans that get a lot of interstate miles, touring tires are designed for low road noise, a plush ride and long tread-wear.

  • Summer Tires -- designed for drivers who demand more from their vehicles, summer tires are made from a soft, sticky tread formulation that grips the pavement for hard cornering and quick steering response. The down side of summer tires is shorter tread life and unsuitability for colder temperatures.

  • Light truck tires -- pickups and SUVs are a popular choice for many drivers, and light truck tires offer car-like ride, noise suppression and handling properties with enhanced load capacity and limited off-road capability.

We hope that clears up your tire-buying decision somewhat...after all, it all depends on what type of vehicle you’re driving and what your needs and expectations are. Give us a call and make an appointment at Master Auto Repair and Tires in St. Louis, MO and one of our qualified service advisers will be happy to guide you through the tire-buying process!
