Time for Spring Auto Maintenance
posted on
3/11/2016 12:34:43 PM
If you didn’t know, spring officially starts on March 20…and with winter officially behind us, spring is a great time to get a fresh start on all kinds of things. Your
car shouldn’t be an exception! Here’s a list of ideas for spring car care – your car will thank you!
•
Oil change:
Your engine relies on clean motor oil for protection against wear and buildups of sludge and carbon. When was your last oil change? What does your motor oil look like – honey-colored and translucent, or the color of black coffee and smelly?
•
T
ire rotation:
Tires need to be rotated every 5,000 miles or so; if you’re scheduling an oil change, it’s a good idea to have the tires rotated at the same time, since the vehicle will already be off the ground on a lube rack. Tire rotations ensure even tire wear and are mandatory for treadwear warranties.
•
Fluids:
Have an auto repair tech get a look at your power steering fluid, brake fluid, transmission fluid and coolant. If they’re low, top them off; if they’re showing signs of age, have them changed.
•
Battery:
The winter months are hard on a battery. We can check your battery’s condition and cranking power, and ensure that all connections are clean, secure and free of corrosion.
•
Wipers
: Your windshield wipers take a beating over the winter months. If your wipers are looking cracked, chipped or dry-rotted or are starting to shed strips of rubber, go ahead and replace them. While you’re at it, apply a coat of Rain-X water repellent to the windshield and windows, and top off the windshield washer reservoir.
•
Air filter
:
It’s easy and doesn’t cost much – go ahead and have your air filter replaced for optimum fuel economy and performance. Also, it might be a good time to change the cabin air filter and prevent spring pollens and allergens from entering your car’s HVAC system.
•
Air conditioning
:
Even the best A/C system on a late-model car can lose as much as 10 percent of its refrigerant over a year’s time. Usually, a poorly-performing A/C system is the result of low refrigerant. At Master Auto Repair, our techs can recharge your vehicle’s A/C with refrigerant that an oil to lubricate the compressor and a seal conditioner for O-rings and gaskets. You know it’s going to get warm soon…don’t get stuck driving a stuffy, uncomfortable car.
•
Wash & Wax:
Snow, ice and road grime all take a toll on your car’s finish. A fresh wash & wax job will do more than keep your car looking great into the spring and summer – it will help protect against corrosion and the sun’s UV rays.
At Master Auto Repair in St. Louis, MO, we know that you’ve got a lot of plans for spring and summer, and you’ve got a lot to take care of. We make it easy to set up an
appointment
with us so that we can get you in and out quickly, and spring auto maintenance won’t be one more worry. Give us a call and let us give your car a going-over before summer gets here!
